Measuring pleated curtains is easier than you might think. Unlike flat curtain styles, pleated curtains already include built-in fullness, so you only need to measure the finished width of your curtain rod or track and the desired finished length. Measure the width from end to end of the rod or track, then measure the length from the bottom of the curtain ring, hook, or track glider to the floor, depending on your installation. Finally, choose whether you'd like your curtains to float slightly above the floor, just touch the floor, or create a luxurious puddle effect. Accurate measurements ensure your custom pleated curtains hang beautifully and fit your space perfectly.
No. Pleated curtains are designed with built-in fullness, so you don't need to order extra fabric for a fuller look. Just measure the total width of your curtain rod or track and order the finished width accordingly. If you're ordering two panels, each panel will cover approximately half of the total width.
Choosing the right curtain header depends on your curtain rod or track, the style of your room, and how you plan to use your curtains. If you have a ceiling track, Pinch Pleat or Hook Top headers provide a tailored look and smooth operation. For decorative curtain rods, Grommet headers offer a clean, modern appearance and are easy to slide open and closed. Rod Pocket headers create a soft, casual look and work best for curtains that are opened less frequently. Consider both functionality and design to find the header style that best complements your space.
Curtain rails are designed to work with headers that attach using hooks or gliders. The best options are Pinch Pleat, Pencil Pleat, and Hook Top (Pleat Tape) headers, as they hang neatly beneath the rail and glide smoothly for everyday use. These styles also create elegant, uniform folds, making them ideal for both modern and traditional interiors.
Grommet (Eyelet) and Rod Pocket headers are not compatible with most curtain rails because they are designed to slide directly onto a curtain rod rather than attach to rail gliders.
North Curtain Tip: If you have a ceiling-mounted or wall-mounted curtain rail and aren't sure which header to choose, Pinch Pleat is our most recommended option for its tailored appearance, smooth operation, and compatibility with nearly all standard curtain rail systems.
Keeping your curtains clean helps maintain their beauty and extends their lifespan. Most North Curtain curtains are made from high-quality fabrics that are easy to care for, but the best cleaning method depends on the fabric type and construction.
For velvet curtains, use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment or gently shake off dust regularly. Spot clean minor stains with a damp microfiber cloth and a mild detergent. If a deeper clean is needed, we recommend professional dry cleaning to preserve the fabric's luxurious texture.
For linen and sheer curtains, machine wash on a gentle cycle using cold water and a mild detergent. Avoid bleach and high heat, then hang them to air dry. If needed, use a low-temperature iron or steamer to remove wrinkles.
